Work Completes on Novus (12/12/2007)

Building work has now completed on Novus, a new £5m business park which is the first of its kind in York designed to support the growth of science and technology enterprises.

Eight `hybrid’ units, combining first-floor offices with ground production floor space, are at the scheme at York Business Park, close to York Ring Road.

Novus, where units range from 3,750 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft, is the first development of its kind by Business Living Ltd, a member of Evans Property Group, Leeds, although the level of interest from potential occupants means that similar schemes are now planned throughout the North.

All the two-storey units, built by Leeds-based GMI construction Group Plc, are in a landscaped setting with dedicated loading areas, allocated car parking, cycle park facilities and CCTV security.

Novus was designed to meet the needs of York’s fast-growing science and technology sector with the ground-floor area of each unit created as flexible space suitable for use as laboratories, technological assembly areas, training or storage space.

The Novus units are available freehold or leasehold and are adjacent to another development by Business Living, a new high-specification, two-storey, pavilion-style office scheme where work is progressing on site and expected to complete early next year (2008).

Business Living managing director, Iain Robertson, says: “York has one of the UK’s most successful science-based universities and it is no surprise that the city also has a growing number of technology and bioscience entrepreneurs.

“If this sector is to prosper and replace many of York’s traditional industries, such as railway engineering and confectionery, these companies will need good-quality space in which to expand. This is why we have developed Novus and are already experiencing a great deal of interest from potential occupants.

“We are confident that Novus will play a key role in the hi-tech science sector’s continuing success in York by creating a cluster of like-minded enterprises at the heart of a larger commercial development.”
